This quaint, hand carved wooden doll seemed old when I purchased her in the 1960's at some antique shop or flea market at the Rockville Covered Bridge Festival, in Parke County, Indiana, but I don't really know her vintage. She stands about 4 1/2 inches tall. She is very sturdy, in very good condition, and is mounted on a cardboard stand that has has 64 cents stamped on the bottom of it perhaps from some food item box in a grocery store. As an eBAY customer has pointed out, she has an acorn for a head, and although I suppose she's not carved from hickory wood, I named her "Miss Hickory" in honor of the 1947 Newberry Award book by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey. It was one of my favorite children's books. She would make a lovely addition to anyone's collection of primitive collectibles - and like Miss Hickory, she's looking for a new home. Won't you take her in? :) More information and details are available on request - and please visit our Second Looks Antiques eBAY store to see some of our lovely antique furniture and other items! |
